Test Results

When you have a test, we can give you certain results over the telephone. But please avoid calling in the mornings when people are trying to book urgent appointments. After 2pm, our reception team can give results on our main number 0161 426 5242.

We cannot always give full results over the phone. If the result is complicated, or if the doctor wants to see you about it, we will offer you an appointment. We will only give results to the person who has had the test, unless a nominated person has been given clearance by you in writing to receive them.

Unless your GP has advised otherwise, the speed at which test results come back from hospital depends largely on the kind of sample involved. Times cannot be guaranteed, but on average, the following is a broad idea of timescale:

  • blood results - overnight/48 hours
  • urine - 3 working days
  • faeces/swabs/urology - 7 to 10 working days.
  • X-rays - 10 working days
